Layou- Hillsborough Estate during Tropical Storm Ophelia. Wednesday will mark the end of this Atlantic hurricane season. The Caribbean was affected by eleven tropical storms, one tropical depression and seven hurricanes this year. Ophelia gave Dominica a serious whipping, causing significant damage to homes and agriculture, particularly on the west coast. The Atlantic Hurricane season officially began on June 01st. Tropical Storm Arlene was the first to hit the region.

Investigations are ongoing into the circumstances surrounding the death of a Laudat man. A resident found Alie Rolle “motionless” in his home at Laudat over the weekend. Police say that a coroner’s inquest and post-mortem will be done to determine the cause of Rolle’s death.

The body of Cadence legend, Jeff Joe, who died in Martinique, arrived here Saturday morning at the Roseau Ferry Terminal. Jeff Joe traveled from Guadeloupe to Martinique this past week to perform at a show. He reportedly complained of feeling unwell. After the show, he went to a petrol station where he collapsed. Family said he was suffering from heart problems. Doctors also found that his kidney was failing. The Grammacks Band singer underwent two emergency operations at Le Maynard Hospital in Martinique, but he later succumbed. On Friday night, his native community of St. Joseph held a candlelight vigil in his honour. There, Parliamentary Representative, Kelver Darroux announced that Jeff will have an official funeral. The funeral date is undecided. Jeff Joe was named a Goodwill Ambassador years ago along with local artistes like Ophelia Marie and Michele Henderson. Police Public Relations Officer, Sergeant Kenth Matthew said police retrieved the bones Thursday after receiving information about its discovery by an unnamed person. Matthew noted that the bones were later tested as human remains by a doctor. 

Five-year-old Rachael Vigilant and two-month-old Sophia A young mother accused of brutally killing her two daughters is reportedly suffering from Postpartum Depression, according to Marpin 2K4 News. She is now a patient at the Princess Margaret Hospital. The Mahaut woman, whose name has not been officially released, was arrested on Thursday morning following the alleged incident about 2:45 a.m. She has not been formally charged. According to Wikipedia, postpartum depression (PPD), also called postnatal depression, is a form of clinical depression which can affect women, and less frequently men, after childbirth. Symptoms include sadness, fatigue, feeling inadequate of taking care of baby, changes in sleeping and eating patterns, reduced libido, crying episodes, anxiety, and irritability. Thirty-two year-old Freeman of Murphy's Lane, Goodwill was killed execution style on Wednesday about 9:30 p.m. Reports indicate he was shot at five times in the head and chest while conversing with friends outside a shop on High Street. Freeman's bullet-riddled body laid in a gutter for some two hours while police officers conducted preliminary investigations. Police Public Relations Officer Inspector Claude Weekes said no one has been arrested for the crime. Freeman leaves to mourn three daughters. A family member speaking on condition of anonymity told this publication that Freeman put a lot of time into his family.
